Samsung sued Apple by introducing a similar variant to drag the address bar of its mobile web browser down identical to Safari.

Users can now place the location bar wherever they want.

Although Samsung has a habit of making fun of Apple for most of its upgrades and later blatantly copying these features as well, but this time, surprisingly, Samsung has cloned a feature from Apple for which even Apple has to face a lot of criticism. However, it looks like Samsung is playing a little smarter here by learning from Apple’s mistakes.

Apple submitted some crucial changes to Safari with iOS 15, which was repainted with a new URL bar merged into the heart of the mobile screen, that year. Nevertheless, this transition offended several operators and iOS users, Samsung now also had the idea of offering the choice to push the URL bar down.

The recent format has been increased with the upgrade to Samsung’s Internet Beta app. This feature is currently functional for the brand’s Android phones.

The “Recent position of the address bar” option is available in the settings menu of the tilting room of the navigator.

The company offers users to choose appointments from the standard web browser format and the recent condensed URL bar at the bottom of the panel.

By qualifying the bottom option, the Samsung Internet app appears relatively similar to Safari in iOS 15. The URL bar is presented mainly above the navigation management and regulators to supervise tabs, share and control other applications.

It should be noted that Apple wasn’t the only tech company to attempt an identical format structure for a portable web browser; other companies, including Google, tested this a few years ago. However, Samsung seems to have concluded to transform the structure of its web browser.

Apple allowed users to remove Safari with the older iOS 15 design, after receiving several objections, although the modern layout is still accessible by default.

The company has also released updates regarding the iPadOS and macOS editions of Safari that may roll back questionable and contentious structure transitions.

Samsung adds the ability to move the address bar of its mobile web browser down.

Samsung is now following Apple with a new option to move its mobile web browser’s address bar down, much like Safari. The new layout was added with an update to Samsung’s Internet beta app, which is now available for the company’s Android smartphones, reports 9To5Mac.

By accessing the layout and menu settings in browser preferences, there is now an “Address bar position” option. There, users can choose between the classic web browser layout and the new one with the unified address bar at the bottom of the screen.

With the “Down” option enabled, the Samsung Internet app looks quite similar to Safari in iOS 15. The address bar is displayed above the navigation controls and buttons for tab management, sharing and viewing. ‘other application settings.

It should be noted that Apple was not the first company to try a similar layout for a mobile web browser, as other companies such as Google tried a few years ago, according to the report.

However, Samsung seems to have decided to change the layout of its web browser soon after Apple did, he added. After several complaints, Apple let users revert to the old Safari design in iOS 15, although the new layout is still enabled by default.

The company also released updates to the iPadOS and macOS versions of Safari that roll back the controversial design changes.

There’s not much that Apple’s rivals would want to steal from Safari 15 – it’s not exactly the company’s thinnest (or most popular) browser update. But in true Samsung style, the South Korean firm has found a thing worth swiping for its own mobile devices.

The latest version of the Samsung Internet Browser gives Galaxy smartphone users the option to move the address bar to the bottom of the screen, making it a bit more accessible, especially when using one-handed.

Samsung steals Safari’s mobile address bar

Apple actually rolled back many of the changes it originally planned for Safari 15 – especially on the Mac – following the many complaints it received from beta testers. But not all of Safari’s changes looked like the result of a hangover design meeting.

Many Apple fans have praised the new ability to move Safari’s address bar to the bottom of the screen on iPhone. And once you get used to it, reaching the top of the screen to type in a URL feels completely unintuitive.

It looks like Samsung liked this particular Safari 15 tweak as well. The company has just incorporated the same functionality into its own Samsung internet browser for Android smartphones and tablets with a new “address bar position” option.

By default, the address bar continues to reside at the top of the screen in Samsung Internet. But if you go to the settings menu after installing the latest browser beta update, you will find an option to move it down.

Apple was not the first

Note that Apple was not the first to move the address bar of the mobile browser to the bottom of the screen. Other software makers have experimented with (or implemented) this change in the past, including Google with some versions of Chrome.

But it seems somewhat suspicious that Samsung made the change just weeks after Apple rolled out iOS 15 with its redesigned Safari interface.

Telegram is one of the most popular instant messaging apps highly protected with end-to-end encryption. The app allows you to share photos, messages, audio messages, videos and stickers with your contacts just like other instant messaging services. You can access the Telegram app from your phones and desktops as long as there is an active internet connection.

How to connect and use Telegram on a web browser

Telegram Web is a browser-based version of the messaging service that offers a similar feature set to the mobile version. Any message you send through Telegram Web will be accessible on the service’s mobile app. If you are using WhatsApp Web, this service is similar.

Using Telegram Web, you can also send and receive messages and media files from your laptop or desktop computers. If you are not aware of this service, here we show you how to use this instant messaging service from your web browser on your laptop or computer. Before proceeding with the steps below, make sure you are using the latest version of the web browser or updating it to the latest version. Additionally, Telegram is available for Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux.

How to use Telegram Web

Follow the detailed steps below to know how to use Telegram Web, the instant messaging service on the web browser of your laptop or PC.

Step 1: First, from your laptop or desktop web browser, visit the official Telegram website. The instant messaging service recommends browsers such as Chrome, Firefox, or Safari.
2nd step: Once the Telegram login page appears, make sure to select the country. Now type your phone number and click on Next button or hit enter.
Step 3: Now you will see a confirmation window on the screen prompting you to verify if you entered the correct phone number and click OK. The service will send a code to your phone number and you will need to enter the code for verification.
Step 4: After this step, click Next and you will be logged into your Telegram web account. It will show all the messages you have sent through the service on all devices.

Should you be using Telegram Web?

Notably, Telegram Web will be useful in specific situations. For example, if you are at work and want to use Telegram Messenger, the web version will allow you to quickly access all the messages and files transferred through the service through your laptop or computer browser. Plus, the web-based version of this service will keep you distracted, as you won’t need to pick up your phone very often.

However, the Telegram web service has its share of limitations. It will not allow you to take advantage of the specific features available on the mobile application. You can use Telegram’s calling and secret calling capabilities. Also, you will be able to invite friends to join Telegram or create new channels using the web browser version of the service.

As a major comparison to WhatsApp, Telegram keeps your messages on its servers. So you won’t need to have your phone connected to the internet all the time for Telegram’s web service to work efficiently.

Web browsers and email clients are used to interact with external and internal assets. Both applications can be used as an entry point within an organization. The users of these applications can be manipulated with the help of social engineering attacks. A successful social engineering attack must convince users to interact with malicious content. A successful attack could give an attacker an entry point into an organization. CIS 9 control provides several guarantees to ensure the security of external information.

Key takeaways for Control 9

Web browsers

Web browsers can be protected by the following: updating the browser, enabling pop-up blockers, enabling DNS filtering, and managing plugins. Always update web browsers to the latest version to resolve known issues. Enable pop-up blockers to prevent malicious pop-up messages from showing to users. DNS filtering blocks access to malicious domains and prevents users from accessing them. Plug-in management can protect users from the potential installation of malicious plug-ins.

E-mail

Email security can be enhanced with appropriate training in social engineering, spam filtering / malware analysis, domain-based message authentication, file type encryption and filtering. Increasing the frequency of social engineering training enables users to successfully detect phishing and business email compromise (BEC). Spam filtering and malware analysis can be used to reduce malicious emails. Another way to reduce malicious email is to use Domain-Based Message Authentication, Reporting, and Compliance (DMARC). DMARC filters emails based on policy alignment and removes non-compliant ones. Encryption can be used to ensure that content remains private. File type filtering can be enabled to protect users from receiving malicious content.

Safeguards for control 9

1. Make sure that only fully supported browsers and email clients are used.

The description: Make sure that only fully supported browsers and email clients are allowed to run in the enterprise. Use only the latest version of browsers and email clients.

Remarks: The security function associated with this backup is Protect. Successful completion of this check provides users with a supported browser and email clients. Using the latest browsers and email clients provides protection against patch vulnerabilities.

2. Use DNS filtering services

The description: Use DNS filtering services on all corporate assets to block access to known malicious domains.

Remarks: The security function associated with this backup is Protect. Successful completion of this check provides users with protection against known malicious domains.

3. Maintain and apply network-based URL filters

The description: Apply and update network-based URL filters to prevent a corporate asset from connecting to potentially malicious or untrusted websites. Example implementations include category-based filtering, reputation-based filtering, or blocklist filtering. Apply filters for all company assets.

Remarks: The security function associated with this backup is Protect. Passing this check has the advantage of blocking malicious or untrusted websites. This prevents users from accessing malicious or untrusted URLs on corporate systems.

4. Restrict unnecessary or unauthorized browser and email client extensions

The description: Limit unauthorized or unnecessary browser or email client plug-ins, extensions, and add-ons by uninstalling or disabling them.

Remarks: The security function associated with this backup is Protect. The success of this check means that no plugin can be installed without approval. This prevents potential malicious plugins from running on a system.

5. Implement the DMARC network

The description: Implement DMARC policies to reduce the risk of receiving spoofed or modified emails from valid domains. Start by implementing the Sender Policy Framework (SPF) and DomainKey Identified Mail (DKIM) standards.

Remarks: The security function associated with this backup is Protect. The success of this check allows users to receive fewer spam and phishing emails. However, training is required to ensure that users do not click on malicious emails that pass through the filter.

6. Block unnecessary file types

The description: Prevent unnecessary file types from entering the corporate email gateway.

Remarks: The security function associated with this backup is Protect. Successful completion of this check blocks all types of files that are not necessary for the organization to function. This protects the organization from malicious files entering the corporate email gateway.

7. Deploy and maintain email server anti-malware protections

The description: Deploy and maintain mail server anti-malware protections, such as email attachment scanning and / or sandboxing.

Remarks: The security function associated with this backup is Protect. Successful completion of this check protects users from detected malicious attachments. Make sure your anti-malware protection is up to date with the latest definitions.

If you’ve ever felt the need to render DOOM using only web browser checkboxes, [Andrew Healey] did you cover with sound recent port of first person shooter. Naturally this gets our check approval.

Yes, you read that right. You can now play DOOM in a 160 x 100 grid of HTML-generated checkboxes, something like this: ☑. The secret sauce for this project is partly derived from the fascinating Checkboxland project by another hacker Brian Braun, who uses HTML checkboxes to generate a variety of artistic demos.

[Andrew Healey] also used Cornelius Diekmann’s DOOM port using WebAssembly, which we recently covered here on Hackaday. A handful of code ties the two projects together, and the end result is DOOM at 160 × 100 resolution, fully rendered with HTML checkboxes.

Port can be played here using Chrome or Edge (other browsers may have problems if they do not support the zoom property in CSS). The source code is also available at GitHub.

While the resolution and color scheme isn’t what we’d expect from DOOM, it’s likely the graphics could be improved even further by changing the dithering and threshold settings. Higher resolutions may also be possible with additional optimization.

We’d be hard-pressed to pick our preferred port of DOOM, as the list gets pretty long. However, for something completely different, check out our story on how DOOM was introduced on Twitter.

Thanks to [Dan] for the right tip.
