DuckDuckGo Developing Dedicated Privacy Web Browser For macOS
DuckDuckGo is best known for being a privacy-friendly alternative to Google in the search industry. However, the company is now looking to expand beyond the search industry with a new privacy-focused desktop browser. See you below for all the details.
The new privacy-focused DuckDuckGo web browser was touted as part of the company’s efforts to create a “privacy awesome app” in one. blog post by CEO Gabriel Weinberg. The desktop browser will be similar to the DuckDuckGo app for iPhone and iPad, allowing users to easily control their privacy settings and information.
Weinberg says the app will forgo “complicated settings” and “misleading warnings” in favor of “robust privacy protection that works by default, for search, browsing, email and more. ”
Notably, the company also says that it does not offer Chromium for this new browser, but rather a browser based on renderers provided by the operating system. This is something that will make the app run faster and cleaner:
Instead of forging Chromium or whatever, we build our desktop app around renderers provided by the operating system (like on mobile), which allows us to remove a lot of the clutter. and unnecessary clutter built up over the years in major browsers. With our clean and simple interface combined with the beloved Fire button of our mobile app, DuckDuckGo for desktop will be ready to become your new daily navigation app. Compared to Chrome, the DuckDuckGo desktop app is cleaner, much more private, and early tests also found it to be much faster!
“It’s an everyday browsing app that respects your privacy because there is never a bad time to stop businesses from spying on your search and browsing history,” concludes the CEO of DuckDuck.
According to The edge, the DuckDuckGo desktop browser is currently in private testing for macOS, but the company is also working on a version for Windows. A specific audience release date is unclear, but we expect it to be 2022 at the earliest.
