How to Access the PS5 Web Browser

Quick steps

  • Go to Settings > Users & Accounts > Link to Other Services on your PS5
  • Choose Twitter from the submenu
  • Log in to your Twitter account in the PS5 web browser window that appears, instead of linking it
  • Access links to other sites through your Twitter feed

How to Access the PS5 Web Browser

If you’ve ever bemoaned the lack of a dedicated browser on PS5, fear not. Sony’s flagship console actually has a built-in browser that can be used to surf the web, although it’s quite limited and can only be accessed in certain ways.

While there are a few minor steps you need to take to use the PS5 web browser, we’ll show you how to access this “hidden” browser and the roundabout way you can browse the internet while using it.

Tools and requirements

1. A Sony PlayStation 5 console
2. Internet access
3. A Twitter account

Not

  • Access the PS5 settings menu, accessed via the gear icon in the top right of the PS5 dashboard.

  • Select Users and Accounts, followed by the “Link to other services” option in the Users and Accounts sub-menu. You will then be greeted by a selection of social media apps that the PS5 supports linking to. Select Twitter Continue.

  • The PS5 browser window will appear, but we don’t want to actually link our Twitter account here, as that will close the PS5 web browser once successfully linked, taking us straight back to the Settings menu. In place, we want to click on the “Sign up to Twitter” option at the top right of the window, followed by “Login” on the next page. Next, enter your login credentials, and instead of being rebooted into the PS5 settings menu, you’ll have access to your Twitter feed.

Final Thoughts

Admittedly, accessing sites through the PS5 web browser is inevitably unconventional and probably wasn’t intended as a fully supported feature. That said, the nature of Twitter’s account linking system allows you to simply bypass this linking process and access your feed instead.

If you missed the availability of a web browser on the PS4, you can still access it on the PS5, albeit in a more obtuse way. The search bar to enter URLs into is also locked and cannot be interacted with directly, which is why browsing through your Twitter feed is the best option here.

It’s worth mentioning that the PS5 web browser is quite limited in what it can do. Although it can display images just fine, sometimes it will return a broken image instead. Also, while you can watch YouTube videos in the PS5 web browser, you can’t view them in full screen. The dedicated PS5 YouTube app is a better option for this.

Overall, though, it’s an interesting oddity resulting from the nature of the Twitter account’s link screen. And it’s a decent – albeit limited – workaround in case other web browsing sources like your PC or phone otherwise become inaccessible for a while.
