Your favorite mobile apps can also run in a web browser

A surprising number phone apps are also available on the web, syncing with your phone so you can access the same data, files and conversations through the web browser of your choice.

This can be useful in all kinds of ways. For starters, that means you have a lot more screen space to work with – content is sprawled out on your desktop monitor rather than being confined to the dimensions of a smartphone screen.

Access to a keyboard and mouse is also important. This means you can process incoming messages much faster than you can on your phone, so you never have to fall behind on a group chat again.

Opening these apps on the web also means you don’t have to search for your phone every time a new notification pops up – you can just manage whatever’s happened from your desktop or laptop.

If you find these perks appealing, here are some of the more well-known apps with little-known web versions. (We won’t cover apps that are obviously available on the web and mobile, like Gmail and Twitter.)

WhatsApp

There’s no need to lean over your phone to feed WhatsApp messages and group chats, as you can view them in your web browser as well, as long as you have your phone handy to set it up. You get more space to see your chats and access a physical keyboard, so typing is faster as well.

Head toward WhatsApp Web to get started and you will be presented with a QR code. Now open WhatsApp on your phone. On iOS, tap Settings, WhatsApp Web / Office, and Link a device to display the QR code scanner and connect. On Android, tap the three dots, then WhatsApp Web and Link a device.

All your conversations are in sync, complete with contact pictures and read receipts (if you’ve enabled them). Click on the three dots, then Settings to configure the main options of the web application, including notification settings and the theme of the web application.

Instagram

Instagram is also available on the web and in this case you don’t need to access your phone. You just need your username and password to login. Instagram on the web and enter your credentials to get started.
